Why The Grange School

Headmaster’s Message

Nicholas Eatough - Headmaster - The Grange School

Welcome to The Grange School. This is a very special School with an impressive history and a wonderful campus. It sits close to the magnificent Andean Mountain range, in one of the most vibrant cities in Latin America. Thus, inspiration at The Grange begins with its location. Above all, however, it is the high-quality, all-round education we offer our boys and girls that makes this an outstanding environment in which young people learn, grow and develop. Grangonians past and present are justifiably proud of their School. They share a determination to preserve its ethos, values and reputation, all of which were so firmly established by its first Headmaster, Mr. John Jackson.

While the preservation of history and tradition is paramount in our mission, The Grange also looks to the future with confidence and optimism. With the School’s 100th anniversary on the horizon, we do not stand still; rather we seek to build an increasingly dynamic, stimulating and inclusive learning community. Excellent teaching and learning are the bedrock of any good school and the importance of a rich academic culture, built on the national programme, but complemented by an international Cambridge curriculum in the Senior School, is fundamental.

A Grangonian education is about much more than academic success, however. The skills our pupils learn on their educational journey here are as important as the examination results, they achieve when they leave. We provide exceptional opportunities for pupils to discover and develop their potential in sport, music and the arts. The concept of the ‘all-rounder’ is not just well understood at The Grange School; it is celebrated as a cornerstone of a high-quality education. Furthermore, the spirit of service and the importance of harnessing one’s talents and skills for the greater good is also fundamental to our educational philosophy. From pre-kinder through to the top of the School, the values of kindness, compassion, empathy and respect are nurtured and lived.

With a background in teaching at two of England’s premier independent and international schools, I am fortunate to lead The Grange through the next stage of its development. I hope you will take the chance to visit us: I look forward to welcoming you.

Mr. Nicholas A T Eatough, B.A (Hons) M.A, PGCE
Headmaster

Our Vision

“At The Grange School, every effort is made to give girls and boys a broad education, which prepares them as far as possible for the future. These all-rounders grow up in a fully bilingual environment, embedded in Mr. John Jackson’s British and Christian values; and which prizes fair play and the spirit of service. Attention is paid to intellectual training, but also to moral and physical development. Inculcating in youngsters a love for work is crucial, both for their own advantage and for the common good; initiative and team spirit are encouraged in all activities. For good work, play or conduct, pupils gain honours for their side rather than as individuals; and they are taught at every opportunity to be respectful and display good manners.”

Pillars

The philosophy of The Grange School is founded on the traditions of the English Public Schools, whose principles are rooted in universal values.  This offers students the opportunity to study and grow in an environment that encourages intellectual, moral, social and physical development, emphasizing the importance of citizen participation, self-discipline, Fair Play and consideration for others. All this with a vision to educate for life.  The profile of our pupils is developed through the following four pillars: Sport, Academic, Arts and Service.

Sports

Sport is a tool to install positive habits and values. Through their practice, the pupils learn Fair Play, as well as self-discipline, collaborative work, leadership, communication and resilience. Through traditional sports, and also increasingly with the diversification of sports, we have placed emphasis on instilling a life commitment with these, as a way of developing Wellness and healthy lifestyle.

Academic

Our academic programme is rigorous and blends the Chilean national programme with the Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level Curriculum in Senior School. Standards are set high, but we aim to support every pupil to achieve his or her own personal best, recognising that young people develop intellectually in different ways and at different speeds. An emphasis is placed on English language immersion in Lower and Upper Prep, with the aim that pupils become bilingual by the time they finish School.

Arts

Education and artistic expression are stimulated in pupils from an early age, in various ways, with creativity being a fundamental element in the development of the profile of our pupils.

Service

Social conscience, caring for others and committed service are fundamental parts of the development of our pupils. Along with teaching from a young age to promote a positive attitude towards others, through kindness, respect and empathy, the social sense of service to the community is a transversal area in the School, which is developed both from reflection and leadership development, as well as concrete practices to support different institutions and various initiatives.
Our Mission

“We want to form young people who will be useful to the country and are trustworthy.”
