As part of our Spirit of Service programme, pupils across the School are encouraged to engage meaningfully with the wider community, developing empathy, responsibility and an understanding of the importance of serving others. Through age-appropriate experiences, pupils have the opportunity to move beyond the classroom, build genuine connections and put our School values into practice.

This week, pupils from 4°D and 5°D took part in two different community visits, each carefully prepared by the pupils themselves and designed to create moments of connection, joy and shared learning.

4°D Spirit of Service Visit

On Tuesday, 25th August, pupils from 4°D took part in their Spirit of Service outing to Hogar de Ancianos Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles. As part of their preparation, pupils reflected on how they could bring joy, companionship and meaningful interaction to the elderly residents through simple but thoughtful activities.

During the visit, they helped residents take part in a game of bingo before performing the fable The Tortoise and the Hare. One particularly special moment was seeing how proactive the pupils were when setting up the bingo game, helping residents to their seats and making sure everyone was included before the game began.

The experience gave pupils the opportunity to connect with people from another generation while putting empathy and service into practice. Reflecting on the visit, one pupil shared, “I really enjoyed playing bingo because it was fun to play a game with new people.” Another pupil said, “It made me happy to see the other residents happy too. I enjoyed connecting with them and seeing that they were good people.”

It was a meaningful experience that encouraged pupils to show kindness, respect and generosity, while discovering the importance of companionship and caring for others.

5°D Spirit of Service Visit

On Tuesday, 25th August, pupils from 5°D took part in their Spirit of Service outing to Jardín Los Anhelos. In preparation for the visit, the class worked together to plan and organise activities that would be enjoyable and meaningful for the young children they were going to meet.

During the outing, they presented a puppet show about the importance of friendship and inclusion. Afterwards, they organised a range of activities, including face painting, Arts and Crafts, circuits and LEGO stations. Through these activities, pupils had the opportunity to demonstrate care, responsibility and leadership while connecting with members of the wider community.

One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the children enjoy painting each other’s faces and sharing lots of laughter together. The experience was a valuable opportunity for pupils to learn, serve others and build meaningful connections, while putting into practice our Grange values of Empathy, Humility and Respect.
