This year we celebrated the 25th anniversary since this inspiring event began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>For the first time this year, before the British Embassy in Chile opened its doors to the community, a special proposal was made to The Grange School: that pupils from Senior School be trained as guides to give tours to visitors to the Embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The event took place on Saturday 25<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;May and it was a resounding success with more than 800 visitors. Nine pupils from The Grange acted as guides showing them this renowned place of preservation, declared as a Historic Conservation Building in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The Grange is tremendously proud of our pupils\u2019 role on this special occasion and for the opportunity and trust bestowed upon them by the British Embassy in Chile. This not only reinforces our important bond with the United Kingdom but also demonstrates the value placed on our pupil\u00b4s profile and on Spirit of Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below we share a testimony from one of our Prefects, Francesca Wilhem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Last Saturday, we as Prefects were honoured to be invited by the British Embassy to assist with tours of the Embassy Residence for Chile\u2019s Cultural Heritage Day. The building, dating back to 1934, was once home to Mrs. Elena Err\u00e1zuriz, daughter of the Chilean former president Federico Err\u00e1zuriz, and was designed and constructed by the renowned architect Alberto Cruz Eyzaguirre, making it an architectural relic in Chilean history.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Five days before to the \u201copen house\u201d, we were welcomed to the Residence to practise and receive a guided tour of the house, gardens, and all the pieces in the British Art Collection on display. Through the authentic paintings and artefacts, we had the opportunity to discover and learn more about significant British figures who made great impacts on our country, including Lady Maria Callcott, Lord Cochrane, and Thomas Somerscales, in addition to many historical anecdotes that exemplified the bilateral relationship between Chile and the United Kingdom. We also had the chance to engage with many Embassy representatives and learn about the various ways in which the British and Chilean governments collaborate to create a positive impact in both nations alike. We were particularly intrigued by the different projects related to the current climate crisis and the initiatives that have been developed to address it.\u00a0During the Heritage Day itself, we not only were privileged to have such close contact with the Embassy representatives, but providing the tours was also an incredibly enriching experience. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our newfound knowledge with the enthusiastic guests, and some of us were even fortunate enough to have historians within our visiting groups. Once the visiting times concluded, we all had the opportunity to meet Ambassador Mrs. Louise De Sousa herself and receive the gifts the Embassy had kindly prepared for us. Overall, we had an exceptional experience assisting the Embassy with the guided tours and are proud to have represented our School in such an event.
