Irene Villarroel The Grange School Santiago Chile

Ms Irene Villarroel is a former pupil of the School. She arrived at The Grange when it became coeducational, merging with Dunalastair School (an all-girls institution at the time) at the age of 9. She was formed at The Grange finishing her career at School as Prefect and School Hockey Captain. 

Ms Irene, as she is known by the pupils, studied Physical Education, worked in the Mayflower School for two years and joined us as a member of staff in 1987. She started as a PE and sports teacher for Preparatory and Senior pupils. In 1998 she started leading the female section of the Sports Department and in 2003 she was appointed as Head of the Sports & PE Department. From 2008 until now she has had the role of Deputy Head Pastoral at The Grange. Besides her work at School she was the Chair of the ABSCh Sports Committee. 

At present Ms Villarroel is the ABSCh Headmasters’ Representative for the Sports Committee. In our Community she was on the Board of Directors of the Old Grangonian Club, and she is a present member of the John Jackson Educational Foundation (FEJJ).

She is the mother of six children, three boys and three girls, all of them Old Grangonians, she also has four grandchildren, one attending The Grange already. She is deeply passionate for sports, diving deep into the running world, running half and full marathons throughout her life, as well as being a hockey player, playing for the Old Grangonians club first division team for over 20 years. Most of all, Ms Irene loves her grandchildren, kids, and her whole family, a pillar of paramount importance in her life.
