As part of the Old Grangonian Day celebrations, the School community came together in a shared experience through the Collective Arts Project – Mandala: Circle of Nature.
Guided by artist Paloma Espinoza – whose work draws on contemplative practices and traditional forms of collective creation inspired by nature – pupils, Old Grangonians, parents and staff participated in the creation of a large-scale mandala, built collaboratively through the careful arrangement of natural elements and wooden pieces. As the work gradually unfolded, each contribution became part of a harmonious and evolving composition, reflecting patterns, balance and forms found in nature.
More than a final piece, the mandala was defined by its process. It invited participants to slow down, to observe with intention and to engage more consciously with their surroundings. Through this shared construction, the experience fostered a sense of connection – both with the natural world and within the community itself.
Quoting Paloma Espinoza, the artist reflected: “The Floral Circle is a contemplative practice and an invitation to gather around a collective weaving, where each petal and leaf represents the proposal and space of each person. Each circle is unique… At Grange, we shared silence and respect, observing how our weaving expanded and grew, before dismantling it together as a gesture of impermanence.”
In the context of The GRAF 2025 and its theme Exploring Nature, the project offered a meaningful opportunity to reflect on nature as a source of inspiration, rhythm and harmony, while also reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and shared purpose that characterises our School.
