Commemoration of the 67th edition of Founder’s Day

On Friday 14th March, we held the 67th edition of Founder’s Day, a cherished tradition that brought together pupils from Upper Prep and Senior School, Staff members, special guests, and representatives from institutions closely linked to The Grange School. This ceremony is emblematic to the Grangonian Community, providing a moment of reflection to honour the life and legacy of our founder, Mr John A S Jackson, who established our School 97 years ago.

This year, we were honoured to welcome representatives of the Jackson family, the John Jackson Educational Foundation (FEJJ), the School, the Old Grangonian Club, the Grangonian Spirit of Service Foundation (FOGSS), pupils from 6° Básico to 4°EM, Sindicato N°2, The John Jackson XV, and The British and Commonwealth Fire & Rescue Company “J.A.S. Jackson”. Representatives of each institution laid the tradicional wreaths flowers in Mr Jackson’s memory.

The Headmaster Mr Nicholas Eatough, formally opened the commemoration, delivering a reflective address to those in attendance. His words set the tone for the occasion, highlighting the profound meaning of Founder’s Day within our community. “…Mr. Jackson’s vision for this School continues to be rooted in the values he prized so highly. Those of Fair Play, Service, Teamwork, and Responsibility remain just as relevant now as they were when he first set out to build this community. And, as we move forward, we do so with the recognition that the world around us is changing faster than ever, challenging us in ways that we may not have predicted or expected“. Our special guest, Mr Charles Kimber, Chairman on the “Fundación Educacional John Jackson” addressed the audience with a heartfelt speech, emphasising the significance of gathering to honour the memory of those who built our School. Among his words, we quote: “…It is a milestone in our annual academic calendar. It is the moment in which we celebrate our culture and the vision Mr Jackson had 97 years ago. It is a moment to re-energize our commitment and also to thank all those Old Girls and Old Boys that with much love, and a sense of gratitude, have dedicated their time and energy in committees, Parents ́Association meetings, different Boards and many other activities that are carried out for the better interests of the School.”. A particularly emotive moment during the ceremony was the playing of Mr Jackson’s voice through the Prayer.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the members of our Community who gathered to commemorate this meaningful day for the Grangonians.
