This month, Upper Prep will be focusing on the value of Compassion. While we continue to reinforce the values already explored, we are now inviting our pupils to look more closely at how they can embody compassion each day, both in and out of the classroom. Compassion is not only about feeling sorry for others, it is about noticing, caring, and taking action, even in small and simple ways.

In School, this can mean listening carefully when a friend is upset instead of rushing to give advice, or including classmates in games and conversations so that no one feels left out. It can also look like sharing what you have, whether that’s lending a pencil, offering a turn in ping pong, or helping a peer understand their autonomous work. Pupils are encouraged to show gratitude to teachers, staff, and helpers, recognising the many people who support them every day. Compassion also shines when children notice and act, for example, offering to carry books for a classmate, helping someone who seems lost, or simply choosing words that are kind and uplifting.

Through these daily practices, we hope that compassion becomes more than an idea; it becomes a habit. By encouraging our pupils to develop empathy and kindness in small, concrete ways, we are nurturing a community where every person feels seen, valued, and cared for.
