Last night’s The GRAF evening at The Grange School was a vibrant celebration of pupil creativity and talent. The event began with guests enjoying a delightful cocktail while admiring a stunning exhibition of student artwork. Under the theme “Exploring Nature”, pupils showcased a wide range of techniques: colorful arpilleras reflecting their connection to the natural world, painted glass inspired by the fungal kingdom, and naturally dyed fabrics using ancestral methods.

Following an inspiring speech by the Head Boy Sebastián Vargas, a group of 25 pupils  from the Senior School band delivered a flawless performance of three movements from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, captivating the audience with their musical precision.

“Good afternoon to you all, and welcome to the 2025 GRAF Evening, a special opportunity in which we will not only be showcasing various disciplines of the Arts, but one where we will be celebrating them.

Generally going unnoticed in the hierarchy of academic focuses, the influence and importance of the Arts is not one to put down, but rather one to promote and protect. From its undeniable contributions to the making of original and innovative creations, to its near scientific-like method of design, the Arts provide us with a wide variety of tools for growing ourselves in all aspects, helping us be more prepared for whatever we decide to pursue. In a time in which the Arts have so little visibility, moments like this one are all the more important, for which I thank you all for being here, helping us strengthen this in our School.

I would like to take this opportunity, before moving on to our planned events, to congratulate all the pupils involved in what I am sure will be a more than successful evening. Their commitment and dedication to making sure whatever they are going to perform turns out great is more than exceptional, and I hope they enjoy themselves in what is to be their night.

While on the same note, I would like to thank all the teachers and staff working diligently to make sure that everything runs smoothly. Whether it is overseeing the preparation of the performances we are about to witness, to making sure the audio is working properly, and making sure there is enough to eat and drink for everybody, every single person behind the scenes has been working hard for this evening to work out, so in behalf of everyone here, thank you.

To finish this evening off, you will be presented with a performance of one of Shakespeare’s most influential works: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Brought to you by some very dedicated and talented 3rd Medio students, under the guidance and direction of our Drama department, this production will not only serve to showcase the passion that our school’s students and teachers have for the Arts, but will also portray the immense talent that we have in our school. I only hope you will be able to enjoy watching it as much as I know the people involved enjoyed making it.

The evening concluded with a dramatic journey to Ancient Greece, as the drama pupils led the audience through various School settings in a spectacular staging of one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The immersive performance transformed the school’s buildings and gardens into a living stage, with the pupils shining brilliantly in every scene.

Ayer, The GRAF Evening en The Grange School fue una vibrante celebración de la creatividad y el talento de nuestros alumnos. El evento comenzó con un agradable cóctel, durante el cual los invitados pudieron disfrutar de una impresionante exposición de obras de arte realizadas por los estudiantes. Bajo el tema “Exploring Nature”, los alumnos presentaron una amplia variedad de técnicas: coloridas arpilleras que reflejaban su conexión con el mundo natural, vidrios pintados inspirados en el reino de los hongos y telas teñidas de manera natural utilizando métodos ancestrales.

Tras un inspirador discurso del Head Boy, Sebastián Vargas, un grupo de 25 alumnos de la banda de Senior School ofreció una impecable interpretación de tres movimientos de la Peer Gynt Suite de Edvard Grieg, cautivando al público con su precisión musical.

“Buenas tardes a todos y bienvenidos a The GRAF Evening 2025, una ocasión especial en la que no solo presentaremos distintas disciplinas artísticas, sino que además las celebraremos.

Generalmente pasadas por alto en la jerarquía de los enfoques académicos, la influencia y la importancia de las Artes no deben subestimarse, sino más bien promoverse y protegerse. Desde sus innegables aportes a la creación original e innovadora hasta su método casi científico de diseño, las Artes nos ofrecen una amplia gama de herramientas para crecer en todos los aspectos, preparándonos mejor para aquello que decidamos emprender.

En un tiempo en el que las Artes tienen tan poca visibilidad, momentos como este resultan aún más valiosos, por lo que les agradezco a todos por estar aquí, ayudándonos a fortalecerlas dentro de nuestro Colegio.

Quisiera aprovechar esta oportunidad, antes de continuar con las actividades programadas, para felicitar a todos los alumnos involucrados en lo que estoy seguro será una noche más que exitosa. Su compromiso y dedicación para asegurar que cada presentación resulte excelente es realmente excepcional, y espero que disfruten esta velada, que sin duda les pertenece.

Del mismo modo, quisiera agradecer a todos los profesores y miembros del Staff que han trabajado con tanto esfuerzo para que todo salga a la perfección. Desde la preparación de las presentaciones que estamos por presenciar, hasta el funcionamiento del audio y la organización del cóctel, cada persona detrás de escena ha trabajado incansablemente para que esta noche sea un éxito, por lo que, en nombre de todos los presentes, muchas gracias.

Para cerrar esta velada, podrán disfrutar de la representación de una de las obras más influyentes de Shakespeare: Sueño de una noche de verano. Presentada por un grupo de talentosos alumnos de 3° Medio, bajo la guía y dirección del Departamento de Drama, esta producción no solo demuestra la pasión que alumnos y profesores de nuestro Colegio sienten por las Artes, sino también el inmenso talento que existe en nuestra Comunidad. Solo espero que disfruten viéndola tanto como sé que quienes participaron disfrutaron al prepararla.

La velada concluyó con un viaje teatral a la Antigua Grecia, donde los alumnos de Drama guiaron al público a través de distintos espacios del Colegio en una espectacular puesta en escena de una de las obras más icónicas de Shakespeare: Sueño de una noche de verano. La presentación transformó los edificios y jardines del Colegio en un escenario vivo, donde los alumnos brillaron intensamente en cada escena.
