In Upper Prep (3°, 4°, 5° and 6° Básico), pupils are given Autonomous Work tasks to complete at home. These tasks are designed to support and extend the learning that takes place in the classroom. Sometimes the work focuses on reinforcing important skills, such as practising times tables or spelling. At other times, pupils may explore a topic in greater depth, prepare ideas for a class discussion, interview family members, collect recycled materials for a project, or study for an upcoming test.

Autonomous Work helps pupils develop important study habits and organisational skills. Learning to manage time, follow instructions, and complete tasks independently are essential skills that support long-term academic success. By completing these activities at home, pupils practise taking responsibility for their learning and building confidence in their abilities.

Each task is given with a clear due date, which is communicated to pupils when the assignment is set. In most cases, pupils have about one week to complete the work. This allows them time to plan ahead and organise their schedule so that the task can be completed calmly and thoughtfully.

Autonomous Work also helps families stay connected to what is happening in school. These tasks allow parents and caregivers to see what pupils are learning and to talk with them about their ideas and discoveries. With support from home and guidance from teachers, Autonomous Work becomes an important part of helping pupils grow into independent and responsible learners.
