In Prekinder children learnt about different kinds of lines and then they linked it to the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky who worked strongly with geometric shapes and lines. Pupils had a great time making their own version of the artist’s painting “Composition VIII” with different media such as oil pastels, solid paint, markers and watercolours.

Kinder pupils got into the imaginary world of tales and knights, where they had to design and create their personal shield. To do so, they did it with collage, tearing coloured papers and pasting them to get their fingers and fine motor skills started. The results are as diverse as the number of children there are in each class, showing the use of bright colours and a lot of skill!

For the first time in Lower Prep, this year our pupils started to use a sketchbook. We are all very excited for having a special place where to practise drawing and developing ideas, as well as keeping a register of their process and progress. Children have been using them carefully and with a lot of respect, making sure to look after them.

In 1° Básico we used the sketchbooks to have a first approach in knowing the North American artist Keith Haring, who made it fun to look at the human body and its movement. Pupils observed and tried to copy his artwork to then create “Haring” bodies of their own in new positions and using bright colours.  It was challenging and so much fun!

In 2° Básico pupils were also thrilled with their new sketchbooks. They learnt about the British artist David Hockney and his colourful landscapes. In order to understand the colour palette he used, children were encouraged to interpret one of Hockney’s landscapes, paying special attention to the complimentary colours and the textures the artist painted. It was a lot of fun and we are very proud of the observational skills that our pupils showed.
