Discover The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

At our School, we are proud to offer pupils the opportunity to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a prestigious and internationally recognised programme that promotes personal growth, commitment, leadership, and service.

Founded in 1956 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh alongside educational and community leaders, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award has inspired millions of young people across more than 130 countries to develop character, resilience, leadership, and a commitment to service. Today, it remains one of the world’s most respected youth development programmes.

The Award encourages young people to challenge themselves beyond the classroom by developing skills, engaging in physical activity, contributing to their communities, and building resilience and independence through meaningful experiences.

The programme is structured across three progressive levels:

At each level, pupils complete activities within the following sections:

Commitment by Award Level

Duration and Commitment by Level

Participants are expected to dedicate approximately one hour per week to each activity throughout the duration of the programme.

All Award activities are completed outside the academic timetable. However, many pupils may incorporate activities they already practise regularly. For example, participation in a sports club may contribute towards the Physical Recreation section, while learning a musical instrument or engaging in artistic or creative pursuits may form part of the Skills section.

Please note that participation in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award involves an annual fee, which covers registration, programme administration, and Award materials. Additional information regarding costs and enrolment procedures will be shared directly with participating families.

Should you have any questions regarding the programme or wish to express interest in participating, pupils are encouraged to speak with Mr Richard Quantrill or Mr Jon Kearns, or alternatively contact Mr Kearns via email at jon.kearns@grange.cl.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award represents a valuable opportunity for pupils to broaden their experiences, strengthen character, and develop transferable skills that will support them throughout their lives.
