On Tuesday, we enjoyed a very special conversation in The Centenary Library.
As part of Light, this year’s theme for The GRAF, we welcomed Chilean poet Rafael Rubio to talk about his work and, in particular, his poetry collection Luz rabiosa.
How is a poem born? What role does rhythm play in writing? Through these and other questions, Rafael shared with our pupils some of his influences, insights into his creative process and experiences that have shaped his work. They also learnt more about his family history, which is closely connected to poetry: he is the son of poet Armando Rubio and grandson of poet Alberto Rubio.
Our pupils also had the opportunity to ask their own questions and take the conversation in new directions, from what he would recommend to someone beginning to explore poetry to what it means to him to be a poet today.
Organised by the Senior Spanish Department and The GRAF, the event was also an opportunity to continue bringing The Arts, one of the Pillars of our Educational Project, to life by connecting our pupils with poetry, creativity and different forms of artistic expression.
