Ciaran O’Rourke

Assistant Head Academic Senior School

In 2018, Mr Ciaran O’Rourke joined The Grange as a teacher in the English Department in the Senior School. Since his arrival, he has been a tutor to pupils in 8º Básico and 1ºEM, a Career Adviser, Coordinator of Key Stage 3 & IGCSE, BSO Standard Committee Chair, Deputy Head, and Head of Department, as well as coaching the Debate Club, Model United Nations, Harvard Essay, and ESU Poetry competitions. And now, from the second semester of 2024, he was appointed as Assistant Head Academic Senior School.

Prior to The Grange, Mr O’Rourke was the Student Life Manager and Adjunct Faculty Lecturer in Modern History and Human Rights at Champlain College, Burlington, Vermont’s campus in Dublin, Ireland. Also High School Coordinator and Director’s Assistant with the Council on International Education and Exchange (CIEE). He holds teaching licenses in Ireland and the United States, where he taught for two years in Los Angeles, California, early in his career.

Mr O’Rourke is a St Patrick’s College of Education, Dublin City University, graduate in History and English, where he was elected Student Union Vice President and captain of the rugby team. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in English as a New Language and a Masters’ Degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. 

When not at work, Mr O’Rourke is keen on the arts, sport, and travel, but above all, spending time with his family, his wife, Dra. María Catalina Villanueva, and their two daughters, Maya and Alanna.
