Model United Nations (MUN)

At The Grange School, Model United Nations (MUN) offers Senior School pupils the opportunity to explore global issues, develop new skills and engage with different perspectives in a collaborative setting.

MUN is an educational simulation of the United Nations in which pupils take on the role of delegates representing different countries. Rather than speaking from their own perspective, they research their assigned country, consider its position on international issues and work with other delegates to debate, negotiate and develop possible solutions.

Through committee sessions, debates and collaborative work, pupils explore topics such as gender equality, peace and security, sustainable development and health, while developing skills in public speaking, critical thinking, research, negotiation, leadership and teamwork.

An important part of the MUN experience is learning to listen to different perspectives, engage in respectful dialogue and work towards common ground. Pupils are encouraged to consider complex issues from different points of view and to understand the challenges involved in reaching agreements between countries.

MUN at The Grange

At The Grange School, MUN forms part of the range of opportunities available to Senior School pupils to learn beyond the classroom. Pupils can participate in conferences and simulations, as well as in the School’s own Gryphon MUN conference.

Participation involves preparation as well as the conference itself. Pupils research their assigned country and topics, take part in training and develop the knowledge and skills needed to debate, negotiate and collaborate effectively.

MUN also reflects important elements of The Grange’s educational ethos. Bringing together the Academic and Service pillars, it encourages pupils to use their knowledge and skills to understand the world around them and consider how they can contribute positively to it. In doing so, pupils put key aspects of the Grangonian Profile into practice, particularly Joy of Learning, Team Spirit, Good Manners and Spirit of Service.

Through MUN, pupils gain a deeper understanding of international affairs while developing confidence, communication skills and an awareness of different perspectives. It is an opportunity to challenge themselves, engage with real-world issues and learn how collaboration and respectful dialogue can contribute to finding solutions.
